Code Of Silence - Poster. redjpgRoyal Arts Academy in conjunction with Nollywood Workshop presents the release of a new movie, titled ‘Code of Silence’ which is a gritty tale of a young girl, Adanma who was gang-raped by two men one night while coming home from school. This singular act is the catalyst that triggers a number of catastrophic events in the film; One of the rapists is a prominent politician in the state and the other his aide.   As a result, Adanma’s family being of humble origins, are afraid to report the matter to the relevant authorities citing the excuse that rape is considered a taboo in society and it will make her undesirable for marriage.

The movie stars Ini Edo, Patience Ozorkwor, Desmond Elliot, Omoni Oboli, Amaechi Muonagor, Shawn Faqua, Makida Moka and more.

‘Code of Silence’ was produced and directed by Emem Isong. Assistant Director was Chris Eneaji. Story and original screenplay was by Bola Aduwo, who was also Associate Producer on the project.  Additional screenplay was by Kehinde Joseph.

The movie is a gripping emotional story inspired by true events that need to be told.

26-year-old Peter Bello was a co-pilot of the helicopter that crashed in the Oworo/Oko Cole area of Third Mainland Bridge on Wednesday afternoon – August 14, 2015. Initial eye-witness reports stated the helicopter burst into flames before crashing into the water. Witnesses called for rescue support as soon as possible.

Out of the 12-seater helicopter, six passengers were rescued alive, while four were found dead that night, and the two pilots’ bodies were found on Thursday morning, according to Premium Times.

The Nigerian co-pilot and photographer, Peter, (his co-pilot was an American, Joseph Wyatt), most recently, took photos of Ebuka Obi-Uchendu & Cynthia‘s engagement dinner – and shared on his professional Instagram page. Heartfelt tributes for the popular young professional have been pouring in from his shocked friends and industry counterparts.

May the souls of all the departed Rest In Peace.

Still can’t believe this. This was just 24 hours ago. No way Peter! This isn’t happening.

Don’t even know what to say. Been crying. Been blurting out your name randomly. Been texting and calling your number. Been looking at your pictures. Why didn’t you give a sign?! Why didn’t you stay abit longer. This is too hard, Peter! Not you! Never thought of this! Your smile, laughter, persistence and push. I’m soooo sorry Peter! I love you! I can’t see the silver lining. I don’t know why this happened. I wish I was always there for you. Wish I responded your texts earlier, wish I picked up your FaceTime videocalls more. Wish I returned your calls immediately. Wish we played tennis more. This is so unfair Peter! You were the best! Almost without blemish. Great heart, almost like an angel. Heaven sent. I can’t stop crying. The pain is right there, hitting every nerve. Can’t work, can’t think, can’t function, all I see is your face. God, help. You were kind to many people too, everyone has the same story about you Peter. You were always bearing gifts; you’ve never been to my house without a gift. If you’ve been hear 50 times, then you’ll have been here with 50 gifts. I remember when we started cycling; you were so eager. I remember you saying I should come to Nevada with you on your last trip to Vegas, but work wouldn’t let me because I said there’ll always be more trips Peter! I remember when you were studying in London and how you’ll randomly send me pictures of things you were up to. So many awesome moments and times with you. I’m so sad, I don’t know why this terrible thing happened to a rare gem like you. I’ll tease you and you’ll humbly play along. I told you that I wanted a dog, that you should let me know if anyone was selling; next thing you showed up at my door with a puppy. You were always there, always ready to help and provide solutions. Smart kid! I miss you already and I loved you Peter, I love you Peter and I’ll always love you more Peter.

I’ve tried putting off posting this because it’ll mean that I’ve accepted that you’re gone and since we met I never for once imagined a world without you in it I keep wishing that we could go back to that last conversation at 1.30 and I could convince you to stay put I keep wishing that I didn’t put off seeing you on Tuesday and postponing till Wednesday I keep wishing that I had gone to carnival when you asked me to I keep wishing I had picked up the phone when you wanted to come visit on Monday I remember you making me promise you that I was going to get fit during my year in London I remember you checking on me after every audition, good and bad I remember asking you to take photos of my house from “space” on Monday I remember your migraine skank dance and how you made fun of me for being such a Yankee boy for not getting it I remember how much crap I gave you because you were going to miss my send-off because of your sister’s wedding and how you promised to make it up to me by coming back early for my dinner And how much crap I gave you at #wade2015 for changing outfits while we were shooting I remember how I kept saying that when I got my helicopter and helipad you were going to manage it for me and how you were going to be my flight instructor And I remember that sinking feeling when your phone wouldn’t go through no matter how many times I called over and over again My dear Peter we didn’t deserve you and you didn’t deserve this, can’t imagine how one person could make so many people feel so special and ask for nothing in return… My dear Peter, you’ve earned your wings and you get to fly forever now and knowing you, you’ll get some amazing pictures while you’re up there… I keep calling your phone and hoping against hope that you’ll pick up and we’ll have a laugh about all this… The small comfort I get from calling your US number and hearing your voice on your voicemail… Can’t wait to see you again brother, we’ll have so much catching up to do… They say God has a plan but this one I don’t understand, this one I can’t accept…. I pray that you had the chance to make your peace with Him… Rest well brother, you’re okay now…

I’m still in shock. Is it really possible that he no more? Someone please pinch me and wake me up from the bad dream!!! Peter. A dear friend… I don’t even know where to start. This guy knew how to push me. He ordered more cakes than any friend of mine and everyone had to be something I had never done before. A lot of the new things you see on my Instagram is thanks to him. From the Oreo Mayhem down to the that white chocolate dripped chocolate cake with chocolate dipped strawberries and all… He was particular and very difficult to please… I loved that! I’m even more dazed because I’m meant to be having dinner with this same guy right now to make up for a text error on his last birthday cake. He came by the store on Tuesday but I was too busy to sit with him (now I wish I had made the time) I am going to miss you dearly! And I am going to remember you forever. In fact, I am going finish up the work of art (cake) we were in the middle of creating and call it the Bello. As much as that doesn’t bring you back, it’s the one way I thank you for all the support, the kind words and the advise. Now I’m remembering how you pushed me to move my business out of 1004 and when it finally happened, the smile on your face was Epic! I’m still praying for some sort of miracle to bring you back but I do know one thing, God knows best. Dear Lord, please tell Peter I Love him and miss him already! #gonetoosoon

Its been a difficult 24hours for a lot of us. It has really got me thinking and its times like these that shapen my perspective regarding commitment, dedication and pride for my job. I have self questioned my reasons for choosing this path and the common response will be for the money, attention, respect. But for me; i’ll say its for the LOVE. It’s love that gets me to work. It’s the love of flight that has turned friends to family. Yesterday a brother was lost to LOVE. @pjkruel i’ll never understand why but we trust God to continue to LOVE you just as u loved the world enough to share your dreams. You will be missed and your dreams live with the #helicopterfamily. May Your Soul Rest in Eternal Peace. Every time I manage to fall asleep. I wake up hoping someone has commented asking me to take down my previous post because your well. Everyone I’ve spoken to today have told me how it will get better with time. The pain will pass. It hasn’t! With every passing minute, I am confronted with the sad reality I cannot accept! I remember when I took picture of you in May. You were in London and dropped by to see your dads opticians. I came down to meet you at the station. You and your suitcases. We suffered that day?You were so warm and nice to everyone there and I can never forget the smile on your face when you said you were a pilot. It was this very happy content smile that I don’t have when I say I’m a tax adviser. I kept trying to convince you to bring out your camera and take a portrait of me. As per big time photog. You were like no it’s deep in the suitcase bla bla. When you finally brought the camera out, you went from not wanting to take pictures to clicking away and saying look here look there in few seconds. We turned the opticians store into a studio! And I kept saying i wanted the almighty ‘Peter Bello’ watermark on the images. I never saw those photos Peter. I didn’t ask because I thought there’s always gonna be time. Once we spoke and you mentioned how you wanted to adopt even when you had your kids in future. I couldn’t believe anyone could be that thoughtful. But that was you Peter. Always thinking of everyone else! I have not been able to have a meal since @thatdudedemi broke the news to me on Wednesday night. You should have heard him growling Peter. He kept shouting we need to pray. Peter we hoped against hope that you will come home. I tried to convince @peterozzy1 earlier today that there had been a mixup maybe there were 13 people and you’re still somewhere. Who will laugh at my head or say my nose will inhale them on Skype If I feel this much pain, I don’t want to imagine what your folks must be feeling. We have to keep your memory alive! You were so different and I will miss you forever #PeterBello #PeterLives #PB A photo posted by Fiyin_Faajs (@fiyin_faajs) on

Peter! I would never be able to write your name and those three words in one sentence. I woke up thinking I was strong, went in to work and couldn’t stop the tears till my manager asked me to leave! My PB! Baddest photographer of life! I remember the night we started the IG photography page. You kept saying you wouldn’t have time. Mr pilot! I created the page and then you’d send me photos to post. I remember how excited you were when you started getting a hang of the page and hashtags and started posting yourself. When I started the GI website you went through the drafts with me. Even offered to help me pay for part of it, in exchange for a part of the business lol. We were still together in London few months ago and never in my life did I think this would happen. Peter why didn’t you call in sick. Why weren’t you on holiday yesterday. Why did it go down! I wish I picked your FaceTime and replied your messages the other day. But I thought there was time. Why Peter! You loved the skies so much. We never got to do that GI x PB collabo. You never sent my pictures. What happens now. Peter what. Why! I kept hoping you were just on an island with no phone waiting to be phone. My man Kayode, it is well! ? #PeterBello #PeterBelloForever #PBForever

I am completely undone. I didn't even think I would be able to do this because I have not in anyway come to terms with reality but I have to try. Peter Kayode Bello, you were pretty much the 1st real friend I made when I moved back to Lagos. From then on, we spent almost everyday together, I would pick you up to take you work on my way to Law School and pick you up and bring you back home. We went to the cinema so much together they'd ask me about you if you weren't with me. Weekends I would follow you to shoots and gigs, or stay in on your couch bed and play with Nikki, Iserena and Johnson. We were polar opposites, me the introvert who wanted to stay in and read and you, who wanted to go out there and actually see and do everything. Truthfully, everyone thought I was in love with you, and in my own way I was but mostly I was utterly mesmerised by you. I have never met anybody with so much zeal for life, who was always determined to live for today. I just wanted to be a part of that. It was through you I was able to meet great people like @chef_fregz @utomisphere @orangecultureng @noble_igwe @okija to just name a few. You got on my every last nerve (you know you can annoy) but you always found a way to make me smile again. When things got rough for me, you were always there for me to turn to. I regret not coming to Calabar with you all the times you invited me, I regret pushing you away this year. I regret not baking you the cake i had promised you. I regret so much. But I know you held no grudges against me. After all we thought we had forever. You were the 1st person I made cake for and the 1st person that convinced me they were good enough to sell. I can't even begin to state how proud of you I am. You were living the dream you worked so hard for. You are awesome. I can't say goodbye, that wasn't our way. Hope we get to see another movie together someday, my love and my dear friend.

Hey style lovers! It’t time for another BN Collection to Closet – the fab feature that allows us appreciate our amazing Africa designers, by shining a light on those who #BuyAfrican.

Today we are closing the work week with a classy piece from Nigerian womenswear label – CLAN. Who’s rocking it – model & actress, Makida Moka.

Enjoy!

Makida Moka in CLAN - BellaNaija - September 2015002

Fab fashion label, CLAN, is the affiliated label of one of the biggest fashion brands in Africa, Deola by Deola Sagoe. Created by her 3 daughters – Tiwa, Teni & Aba Sagoe, the fashion label kicked off in 2011 with their debut collection – Rampage by CLAN. A year later, the brand showed a steady rise as they showcased at the 2012 Arise Fashion Week Africa, with a collective of clean cut pieces. Click here to check it out.

Since then, they have helped pave the way for young fashion brands in Nigeria. They’ve showcased alongside their mother’s label at the New York Fashion Week 2014, have become a favourite for celebrities like Angela Simmons, Eku Edewor, Zainab Balogun, Tracy Nwapa, Osas Ighodaro, Mo’Chedah, Seyi Shay, Maria Okan and many more for classic and timeless pieces, and keep pushing the envelope.

The brand’s latest collection – “Kasumi” – definitely paints them as a label that not only has what it takes to stand on its own two feet, but one that will continue to surprise for years to come.

Now to the fashionista who reminded us of just how much we love a classic CALN piece – Makida Moka. The model/actress stepped out yesterday at the Tinsel Charity Ball in this figure-hugging scarlet CLAN dress. Makida rocked the dress, which is a mix of 2 fabrics, in black and looked very lovely.

See an image of the piece worn by one of the designers – Teni Sagoe; and another of Makida with TV presenter & actor, Akan Nnani.

LoveDrive - BellaNaija

We are so excited to tell you about a group of superheroes storming Lagos on the 13th of February 2016 for LoveDrive.

Every year, thousands of cancer patients, accident victims, pregnant women, children under the age of five, patients suffering from sickle cell anemia, and surgery patients all die in Nigerian hospitals because of shortage of blood. The problem is so vast that about 26,000 pregnant women die each year because of shortage of blood and an estimate of 24,000 children under the age of 5.

If you think this is scary, check out the next one. In Nigeria, an estimated 1.7 million units of blood (from 10% of our population) is needed annually to prevent untimely and avoidable deaths through blood-related medical cases but the National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS) recorded a very low figure of 48,908 units for 2014.

But there is more. In Lagos alone, 185,000 pints of blood are needed annually but only 80,000 pints are collected. Most of these are by blood touts, which mostly, are bad for use. This huge shortage leads to 25% of maternal mortality and countless deaths of children under the age of 5.

Clearly this is NOT a sexy subject. There is no spinning it, blood is a scarce resource and the BEST blood is one from voluntary non-remunerated donors. However, these group of superheroes are trying to make this easier for those who want to do something about this problem.

LifeBank is creating a movement of 1 million young Nigerians that are committed to saving lives through voluntary blood donation.

LifeBank is done talking about the problem, they will simply fix it but they will need your help.

You can join the movement and get involved by coming to LoveDrive. It is a fun, and tremendously cool event where people come to donate blood, eat good food, hang out with awesome celebrities and save 3 lives each. Plus there is a free medical checkup for all of our donors.

Date: 13th February 2016
Venue: 294, Herbert Macaulay Way, Sabo, Yaba, Lagos
Time: 10am – 5pm

BN PIck Your Fave

It’s that time again when we’ve got a stylish BN Pick Your Fave for you!

Today we have media personality Bolanle Olukanni and model Makida Moka both rocking Nigerian designer Fruché.

Fruché is fast becoming a favourite among celebrities.

Makida Moka first rocked the hune mesh top and orange double layer pleated skirt from the brand’s Spring/Summer 2016 collection a couple of weeks ago for Samsung Mobile Galaxy S7 launch at Hard Rock Cafe in Lagos. Not minding the already colourful outfit, Makida rocked her look with a pair of yellow pumps.

Bolanle Olukanni rocked the same outfit recently while shooting an episode of “Moments”. She opted for a pair of white pumps for her outfit.

What are the Dating Rules of Engagement? WATCH Akah Nnani & Makida Moka Break it down on “Akah Bants”

A new episode of “Akah Bants” is here and on this episode Akah and Makida Moka are talking about the rules of dating.

One of the most talked about issues on TweetVille a couple of weeks back was the question of whether it’s right for a girl to bring her friends along on her first date with a guy who’s asking her out. Well, people on Twitter had a lot of strong opinions about the issue. And just because it makes for great banter, it was only fair for Akah Nnani and Makida Moka tackle this issue head on in this new episode of Akah Bants. They just couldn’t resist.

This episode features the story of a young Nigerian lady with the handle @Kofolagos who shared a little bit too much of her rather interesting dating philosophy prompting Akah and Makida to chime in, sharing their rules of first dates, or better put, their basic dating rules of engagement.

Watch below.

Wizkid

If you have not been keeping up with the #OneAfricaMusicFest happening in New York tonight via our @bellanaijaonline Instagram page, don’t worry this post has got you covered.

The show has been absolutely lit!

With performances from Wizkid, Davido, Flavour, Don Jazzy, Timaya and many more, it has been an amazing night for lovers of African music.

The whole week has been pretty amazing and model/actress @theMakidaMoka has been on BellaNaija duty all week bringing us the updates from the arrival of the superstars in New York to the wonderful sights in NY as well as the media rounds they had. Be sure to check it all out on our Instagram page.

For the main event, which wrapped up a few minutes ago, here are 6 highlights that you should not forget in a hurry 🙂

Praiz Opening the Show

Praiz opened the show. Praiz and his dancers gave us quite the performance. Ghanaian act Stonebwoy joined him on stage too and they performed a new song.

Songstress Efya also came on stage to join the performance

Don Jazzy back on Stage

Timaya and Mavin Records CEO Don Jazzy got on stage to perform together at the One Africa Music Fest tonight. The performance was amazing and pretty symbolic because last year Don Jazzy said he’ll be retiring his music side but made an exception for this show.

Don Jazzy also made an appearance for Tiwa Savage‘s set when she performed “Eminado”. Watch below.

Davido’s Energy is on a 100%

Have you ever seen Davido perform? His energy is amazing. His hypeman Special is also pretty energetic and together they shake up the audience. It’s always interesting to watch.

The Ladies Love Flavour

Flavour got on stage tonight and one of the songs he performed was his hit song “Ada Ada”. We shared a glimpse of the audience and one thing we can say is that the ladies love Flavour.

@2niteflavour just got on stage. Ada Ada!!!!!! #BNinNewYork #BNatoneAfricaMusicFest #oneafricamusicfest

Wizkid was the closing act for the show and of course he had to end with a bang. He started off performing his song with “Femi Kuti” (and he actually sang and his voice is amazing) and then went into some of his oldie but goodie songs like “Don’t Dull”.

He also performed his hit song “One Dance” and to close the show he brought on American producer Swiss Beatz. We did not see that coming.

… and Jidenna LOVES BellaNaija

Makida caught up with Jidenna backstage and the Nigerian born rapper gave a shoutout to BellaNaijarians. Watch below.

There’s going to be an after-party later on tonight and you can keep up with all the stars via our Instagram page. There are so many Nigerian stars in New York right now from Tiwa Savage to Cobhams, Sound Sultan, Praiz, Banky W and more.

Stay glued to @bellanaijaonline 😉

Hello BellaNaijarians!

I’m Makida Moka, model and actress. I was recently on BellaNaija duty in New York for the One Africa Music Fest. I had such a fantastic time!

I did a diary for the week to show you and let you know what I got up to out and about in New York.

So, here it is.

Day 1 – Monday 18th July 2016

The sun was rising right outside my window seat and it was gorgeous! I had to take a picture.

I was on the Arik Air flight from Lagos to New York for the One African Music Fest on BellaNaija duty all week.

It was a 10 hour flight. We (the One Africa Music Fest team and I) finally landed, got our bags and headed to where we were going to stay for the week. We stayed in New Jersey. It was rush hour when we landed so it took us nearly 2 and a half hour to get to New Jersey from the JFK airport in New York. It felt like a trip on the 3rd Mainland Bridge.

We finally got to the hotel and settled in; I spotted the New York Times building on the way back and also spotted a Chipotle around the hotel. I had always wanted to try a Burrito, so I thought why not? I had it for dinner.

Day 2- Tuesday, 19th July 2016

Tuesday started off with an airport run. Interestingly, I wasn’t Jet lagged! The trick I did was to stay up past my Nigerian bedtime and wake up at American time and I was fine.

I had to let you know about all the interesting things going on during the week so I went to the airport to pick up Sound Sultan and Praiz who were performers for the One African Music Fest.

My outfit of the day was a shift dress by Frankie&Co from Grey Velvet.

After the airport run, I was exploring the area of the hotel and I spotted the DJ Khaled “Keys” Tour Bus. Of course I had to take a picture!

Then Tiwa Savage, the only female performing at the concert, was landing in the evening so I had to do another airport run to show you when she arrived. We drove through the Lincoln Tunnel and by the Empire State building on the way.

Day 3 – Wednesday, 20th July 2016

I woke up pretty excited about Wednesday. I was going to actually see “The Wendy Williams Show” and a bit of New York City. I watch the show all the time in Lagos and to actually be at the taping was so awesome.

My outfit of the day was this Frankie&Co dress from Grey Velvet.

I took the subway and walked around New York City and saw the United States Post Office building and the Fashion Institute of technology building.

It was such a great day!

Day 4- Thursday, 21st July 2016

This was the day before the One Africa Music concert. It was quite a busy and interesting day. We had Media rounds in the morning at Channel 11 Pix News and then Revolt TV in the afternoon. Fun fact, Revolt TV is owned by Diddy.

My outfit of the day was this Isi Brown Striped top and trousers from Grey Velvet.

I also got to meet one of my favourite comedians from the internet, Chief Obi.

The Pre Party for the One African Music Fest was also on Thursday evening at a place called Milk River. I couldn’t stay too long because Wizkid was getting to New York that evening and I had to go to the airport.

Nigerian DJ Crowd Kontroller was keeping the party alive!

Day 5- Friday, 22nd July 2016.

The Day of the Concert!

I got my All Access Pass for BellaNaija and we made our way to the Barclays Center. The Barclays Center is also home to the Brooklyn Nets basketball team.

I got to meet AyoJay backstage and also see the dressing rooms of the performers for the concert.

The stage was all set up and the show started! There was no dull moment. The energy of the concert was electric. Over 17 thousand people came to the concert.

The Highlights of the concert for me were Tiwa Savages‘ performance with Don Jazzy coming on stage to perform with her.

I loved that Wizkid performed his old hits as well as the new ones, and when Swiss Beatz came on stage during Wizkid’s performance it was quite amazing.

DJ Crowd Kontroller was also great at keeping the energy levels up in between performances.

I totally loved Jidenna‘s performance. I really liked that he brought up a masquerade on stage.

I was able to talk to Jidenna right after the concert and he did a shout out to you BellaNigerians. It was a pleasure talking to him. He’s so cool.

Days 6&7 – Saturday and Sunday (23rd and 24th July 2016)

Saturday and Sunday were days for resting and reminiscing on how epic the One Africa Music fest was. It was historic and I was glad that I was able to be part of history.

Had pancakes for breakfast and during the day, I had another Burrito but this time from Taco Bell. I also did a bit of shopping on Sunday.

Day 8- Monday 25th July 2016.

It had been a fantastically eventful week but it was time to go back home to Lagos. We (One Africa Music Fest crew and I) headed to the airport to catch our Arik Air flight. On the way to the airport, we drove past the Yankee Stadium.
